www.deboerdiezougaanemigreren.nl Op oudejaarsdag 2006 hakt de karakteristieke veehouder Heijmen Brouwer (61) uit Leusden de knoop door. Samen met zijn voltallige veestapel, blinde knecht Hendrik (77) en nieuwe vriendin Janine (42) wil hij emigreren naar Frankrijk. Boer Brouwer is de strakke landbouwregels en de voortdurende controles in Nederland namelijk spuugzat. Opnieuw beginnen in Frankrijk was altijd al zijn levensdroom want daar houden ze nog wel van boeren. Maar al snel volgt een reeks van obstakels en problemen. De camera registreert even genadeloos. De emigratie lijkt tot mislukken gedoemd. Toch blijft het tot het einde spannend. Want gaat hij nu wel of niet? Een hilarisch, dramatisch en aandoenlijk portret van één van de laatste vrije boeren die niet meer kan aarden in het huidige Nederland en de vrijheid zoekt. Brouwer: "Het vertrek van de boeren is het einde van de vrijheid van een volk." Over een man die op zijn oude dag zijn eigen kop volgt en alsnog zijn levensdroom wil verwezenlijken. Over het verschil tussen boerenwijsheid en boereneigenwijsheid, de marges tussen onder en boven de wet en over boerenerfgoed dat verdwijnt uit het moderne Nederland.
